We know that the recent ICE activity has sent shockwaves through our community, especially for those of us who work closely with Berkshire County’s immigrant population. We’re doing our best to stay up to date with all the news and know little more than what has been reported in local media outlets. LitNet collaborates with other immigrant-focused organizations in the community through the coalition Berkshire Alliance to Support the Immigrant Community (BASIC). BASIC shares news, creates partnerships, and builds resources for our neighbors. We are committed to sharing these resources with our learners and tutors, and we welcome anyone in the community to visit BASIC’s ICE Preparedness pages (see the ICE Preparedness options on the homepage menu).
In other news, as this winter’s deep freeze finally begins to thaw, we are looking forward to some upcoming activities and events. We have a Karaoke night planned for April 10 at Hot Plate Brewing in Pittsfield. The idea is for learners to practice their English by singing, but all are welcome!
Stay tuned for more information soon on the following:
- Trivia night, citizenship edition! This spring, come out and test your knowledge–would YOU be able to pass the citizenship interview?
- June 25: KidNet at the Stockbridge Library. A fun day of celebrating literacy for LitNet learners, their families, and the community.
- August 3: We will host our second-annual Moth-style storytelling event onstage at The Mount. You won’t want to miss this!
- October: Our annual fundraising event, honoring the Masiero family.
Because there’s so much to unpack in our 2024 Impact Report, we’re sharing another excerpt in this month’s newsletter. Enjoy!
