Literacy Network (LitNet) believes in the power of education to transform lives. For over twenty-five years, LitNet has been the premier provider of individualized, one-on-one language and literacy instruction for adults in Berkshire County. We are grateful for your interest in learning about opportunities to support LitNet. Your tax-deductible contribution makes a difference in the lives of your neighbors. Now, more than ever before, our programs serve those in our community learning language and literacy skills to fill out applications, obtain employment, understand their children’s school assignments, speak to medical professionals about vital health care needs, and apply for citizenship. Our team of over 150 volunteer tutors ensures LitNet learners reach their potential and achieve their dreams.

Massachusetts has a new charitable contributions deduction. It’s available to all taxpayers, whether or not you itemize deductions on your federal return. Just keep track of your contributions and report them on the state tax return you file in the first part of 2024. They’ll be deducted from your taxable income. This deduction is universal and permanent, so you can utilize it every year going forward.

Legacy Giving – Through planned giving, you can ensure that those adults most in need in our community will have access to educational opportunities for many years to come. Prior to making a legacy gift, we recommend you consult your attorney or tax advisor. To speak with LitNet about your intentions, please contact us at [email protected] or (413) 243-0471.
Retirement Account / Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) – For anyone who has not reached age 70 ½ by the end of 2019, the new required age for RMDs from your retirement account will be 72. Please consult your financial advisor or tax consultant to determine if it is possible to directly donate all or a portion of your RMD from your retirement accounts as Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD), which may exclude the amount donated from taxable income. LitNet is a qualified charity.
Make Your Gift Go Further – Your contribution to Literacy Network may be eligible for a matching gift from your employer.
