Why LitNet's mission matters or why it resonates with me:

As the daughter and granddaughter of refugees who fled Nazi Germany to settle in the United States, I am particularly sensitive to the needs of the immigrant community. Learning English and becoming proficient at speaking and reading the language opens the door to adapting to American life, becoming part of the local community, finding employment and exploring educational opportunities. Lit Net’s free and flexible one-on-one learner-tutor model has yielded great results for over 30 years!

Biography:

Lenore Sundberg graduated from Oberlin College with a degree in art history and museum work in a variety of capacities was the focus of her career. She moved to Stockbridge with her husband in 1976, raised two sons, and worked for 18 years as an editor for an art history research publication based at the Clark Art Institute library in Williamstown, MA.

Later she managed The Clark’s off-site museum shop in Lenox, the Berkshire Botanical Garden gift shop and the Berkshire Museum shop. Retirement offered more free time to engage in volunteer activities at the Berkshire Botanical Garden, the Stockbridge Library and at Literacy Network. Since 2007, Lenore has been an active ESOL tutor for LitNet, and has thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Her learners have included women of diverse backgrounds and ages from Moldova, Bulgaria, Brazil, Columbia, the Dominican Republic and Peru. She continues to be inspired by her LitNet learners and loves the challenge of helping them improve their English skills, adapt to life in the Berkshires, and meet their desired educational and employment goals. Lenore currently serves on the LitNet Board and is a member of its Education and Development Committees.
