The Literacy Network is expanding into downtown Pittsfield with a permanent office at 137 North St., adding to its longtime Lee location. LitNet, which trains volunteer tutors to help adult English language learners build their speaking and writing skills, prepare for citizenship tests, and work toward high school equivalency, says roughly 60 percent of its 230 learners live in Pittsfield. The new space will include tutoring stations, a resource center, and a welcome center, giving people a place they can walk into for help. The center is expected to open within a few weeks, with a formal grand opening set for Oct. 29. LitNet is also actively recruiting new volunteer tutors and provides full training, resources, and flexible scheduling.
